Dear Pope Benedict
Auction off the the Vatican, its artwork, its historical documents, and its artifacts for all they’re worth (500 billion - 1 trillion $s?). Use some of the cash to buy a small house somewhere, and the rest to feed/educate millions. That’ll help undo 1,500+ years of indoctrination, murder, and child molestation—-and “guarantee your way into heaven.”  Oh, what’s...

Child Sacrifice on the Rise →
This is disgusting. Apparently in Uganda, rise in wealth is proportional to rise in ritual child decapitation. Nobody from their government would interview, and the police are accused of ignoring over 900 alleged murders. They believe that the sacrifice of a child (who can be bought on the black market) brings fortune and luck. More reason to attack irrational belief systems.

The Consequences of "Frankenfood"
Since the development of recombinant DNA technology, genetically modified (GM) food has been a hot-button topic. In the era of cut-and-paste gene engineering, it has become possible to move genes between incredibly disparate species1. The inception of this novel biotechnology came with both obvious practical uses and questions of consequence. Many have long feared that artificially modified foods...

Scientists Take First Step Towards Creating... →
Scientists are trying to make evolving entities out of inorganic matter, and are having some success. It would be really incredible to see true alien life emerge from our own hands.

Arguing With Philosophers
I keep finding that when I try and have a discussion with a philosopher, and he/she gets backed into a corner, the person often resorts to wordiness and obscurity to escape. I just debated philosophy of science and scientific atheism with a philosophy graduate student, who tried to convince me that science and theology were no different because they are based on untestable axioms. I had to...

From Lowly Origins
False impressions about scientific theories are pervasive throughout society, as most of us are well aware. People cringe at hearing “genetically modified food”, not realizing where a malnourished majority of the world receive their life-saving vitamins. Global warming is touted as fraud, and stem cell research has been stymied for years. The list is large and growing still.  Well-funded political...

Space Photos Discover Tombs/Treasure/Pyramids in...
“Seventeen lost pyramids!” exclaimed Kathlyn Cooney, an assistant professor of Egyptology at the University of California at Los Angeles. “That would be one of the most important discoveries in the last 100 years. That’s amazing.” Cooney was referring to a series of infrared images and high-resolution photographs taken from a satellite suspended 700 kilometres above Egypt, in a project...
